Standards-Based Curriculum describes what all students should know and should be able to do at the end of a grade, school cluster, or after they leave school.

The driving wheel for Standards-Based Curriculum is through the formulation of the learning or curriculum standards. The Learning/Curriculum Standards refer to:

  1. National Aims and Goals

  2. Content Standards

  3. Benchmarks

  4. Evidence Outcomes

  5. Topic/Learning Objectives

  6. Lesson Objectives

  7. Performance Standards/Indicators

The development of the learning/curriculum standards were based on the Sustainable Development Goals, situational analysis and they are interconnected and they capture the following core curriculum skills and values such as:

• Cognitive skills (critical and creative thinking);

• Reasoning, problem-solving and decision-making skills;

• High level thinking skills (analysis, evaluation and synthesis);

• 21st century skills;

• STEAM principles and skills;

• Spiritual values and virtues;

• Reading, writing and communication skills, and

• Essential values and attitudes.

All standards are linked to and intertwined with the ultimate aim of SBE and SBC, operational aims and goals, overarching curriculum principles, and SBC principles.
